The short version: Sentri collects only the data needed to monitor your Tesla vehicle. Your data is never sold, never shared with advertisers, and never used for any purpose other than providing the service to you.
1. Who We Are
Sentri is developed and operated by Suresh Popuri, an individual operating as a sole proprietor in the United States. Sentri is a privacy-first Tesla Sentry Mode monitoring application available on iOS.
Vehicle telemetry data — received directly from your Tesla vehicle via Tesla's Fleet Telemetry system:
Sentry Mode state (armed, aware, off)
Door lock state (locked / unlocked)
Battery level and charging state
Vehicle connectivity state (online / offline)
Vehicle name (as set in your Tesla account)
Account data — collected when you create an account:
A unique user identifier (randomly generated, not linked to your name)
Your Tesla OAuth tokens (encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM)
Your vehicle identifier (stored as a cryptographic hash)
Your VIN (encrypted at rest, never stored in plaintext)
Device data — collected to deliver push notifications:
Your Apple Push Notification token (encrypted at rest)
Device type (iOS)
Usage preferences — your in-app settings:
Privacy mode selection
Notification preferences
Quiet hours configuration
3. What We Do NOT Collect
Your name, email address, or any personal identifier
Your vehicle's location or GPS data
Dashcam or Sentry Mode video footage
Driving behavior or trip data
Any data beyond what is listed in Section 2
4. How We Use Your Data
We use the data we collect solely to provide the Sentri service:
Real-time monitoring — displaying your vehicle's sentry status, battery level, and lock state in the app
Push notifications — alerting you when sentry activity is detected near your vehicle
Remote commands — executing lock, unlock, honk, and sentry toggle commands at your request
Event history — storing a log of sentry events for your review, subject to your chosen retention period
We do not use your data for advertising, analytics, or any purpose not listed above.
5. Tesla Integration
Sentri integrates with Tesla's Fleet API and Fleet Telemetry system. When you connect your Tesla account:
You authorize Sentri through Tesla's official OAuth system
Your Tesla credentials are never stored by Sentri — only the OAuth tokens Tesla provides
Your vehicle is configured to stream telemetry directly to Sentri's servers using Tesla's Fleet Telemetry protocol
Sentri requests only the scopes necessary to provide its features: vehicle_device_data and optionally vehicle_cmds
Tesla's own privacy policy governs Tesla's handling of your data. You can review it at tesla.com/legal/privacy.
6. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on servers located in the United States. We implement the following security measures:
All Tesla OAuth tokens are encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM with envelope encryption
All APNs device tokens are encrypted at rest
Your VIN is encrypted at rest and never stored in plaintext
All data in transit is protected by TLS 1.3
Vehicle identifiers are stored as cryptographic hashes
Our API is protected by Cloudflare's DDoS mitigation and WAF
7. Data Retention
You control how long your event data is retained through your Privacy Mode setting:
Standard mode — events retained for 30 days
Enhanced mode — events retained for 14 days, with additional metadata minimization
Stealth mode — events retained for 3 days, minimal logging
Account data (tokens, device tokens) is retained until you delete your account. All data is permanently deleted upon account deletion.
8. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third parties. We do not display advertisements. We do not use advertising networks or tracking services.
The only external services involved in operating Sentri are:
Apple APNs — to deliver push notifications to your iPhone
Tesla Fleet API — to communicate with your vehicle
Cloudflare — for network security and DNS (no user data is stored by Cloudflare beyond standard network logs)
Access — your event history is always available in the Activity tab
Delete events — you can delete individual events or all events at any time
Delete account — available in Settings → Delete Account & Data. This permanently and immediately removes all your data from our servers, including tokens, events, device registrations, and preferences
Revoke Tesla access — you can revoke Sentri's access to your Tesla account at any time through your Tesla account settings at tesla.com/account
Disconnect notifications — you can disable push notifications at any time through iOS Settings
10. Children's Privacy
Sentri is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Sentri after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
